Copyrights are subject to a very specific tax regime. Learn more through our article on copyrights.

Billing a Copyright

On BILLY, in the billing module, you just need to select the Copyright Received category.

VAT at 6 or 21%

The copyrights you bill must be subject to a VAT rate of 6%. There is an exception for computer code or advertising works: the VAT is then 21%.

Specifics for Individuals

When your client pays you a fee related to a copyright, it is up to them to file and pay the withholding tax on movable income.

⚠️ It is your client who must pay the withholding tax on movable income. This is done via a specific tax form, form 281.45.

How to edit my invoice in this case? You just need to add a negative line "Withholding tax on movable income to be paid by the client". Select the category "Deposit and Disbursements". This category does not affect your result, it is neither income nor an expense, just a payment to be deducted from the total payable. Additionally, no VAT applies to this amount.
